Mugler Autumn Winter 2011
The only major issue I have with this Mugler show is the hype surrounding it. I mean, get over it people! Nicola Formichetti is a fantastic stylist, and yes, he got Gaga to walk the show for him. But it doesn’t merit the column inches it got. I felt bored of Mugler before I even saw the show, and that sucks because the show was quite good. Let’s just all chill out about this, ok? Because all this overhype is just going to put Formichetti on a pedestal, which means he could fall off, and I really want things to work out for him at Mugler because I think he is the best man for the job.
Onto the clothes. I feel it is impossible to properly review/evalutae/understand this collection without knowing the original Thierry Mugler brand. And since I am not in the mood for giving a fashion history lesson, you’ll have to look elsewhere for that info. All I can say is he was a genius of eighties fashion. Formichetti has done a great job bringing back the essence of the brand, in a more modern context, and adding his own style, which compliments Mugler but also renews it. Well done!
